Chinese automotive conglomerate Geely Group has announced an ambitious strategy to significantly increase its new energy vehicle (NEV) sales, targeting over 75 per cent of its total annual sales to be comprised of plug-in hybrid and fuel cell vehicles by 2030. The company aims to achieve annual sales exceeding 6.5 million vehicles by the end of the decade.

Strategic Blueprint Unveiled

Geely, the parent company of prominent brands including Volvo, Polestar, and Zeekr, revealed its five-year strategic blueprint on Tuesday, outlining its vision to solidify its position as a global automotive leader. This plan builds upon a strong performance in 2025, where Geely recorded total sales of 4.116 million vehicles, marking a 26 per cent year-on-year increase and the fifth consecutive year of growth.

Record Sales and NEV Growth

The 2025 sales figures represented the first time Geely surpassed 4 million vehicle sales in a single year, positioning the company as the seventh largest globally and the fastest-growing automaker among the top ten automotive groups. Crucially, NEVs accounted for 2.293 million of these sales, a 58 per cent rise from the previous year, making up 56 per cent of Geely’s total sales for that year. The term ‘new energy vehicle’ in China encompasses battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid EVs (PHEVs), and fuel cell EVs (FCEVs).

Global Expansion and Technological Advancement

Looking ahead, Geely intends to boost its annual car sales by 58 per cent to 6.5 million units by 2030. The projected 75 per cent NEV share translates to approximately 4.875 million units. Beyond its domestic market, Geely aims to increase sales outside China to over one-third of its total volume. The company also plans to develop advanced ‘world-class new energy architectures’ for A- to E-class models, seeking to reduce average research and development cycles and per-model costs by more than 30 per cent.

Technological Focus

Geely’s strategic roadmap places a significant emphasis on its ‘Seven Dimension technology ecosystem’. This ecosystem is centred around key areas including intelligent driving, intelligent cockpit, E/E architecture, vehicle architecture, battery technology, electric drive systems, and advanced hybrid powertrains. The company is committed to further enhancing its leadership in electrification and intelligent safety technologies.
