Polestar 3 Gets Significant Upgrades for 2027 Model Year with Enhanced Charging and Power

Polestar, the electric vehicle manufacturer with Swedish roots, has unveiled substantial enhancements for its flagship Polestar 3 luxury SUV, set to arrive for the 2027 model year. The updated model boasts an improved charging architecture, increased power output, and an upgraded onboard computer, aiming to deliver a more compelling package to consumers.

The most notable improvements for the upcoming model year include a significant boost in charging speeds, reaching up to 350 kW thanks to its new 800-volt electrical architecture. This upgrade is complemented by a substantial increase in power across the range and a more advanced central computing system.

“The upgrades to Polestar 3 are so extensive, it’s like an entirely new car,” stated Polestar CEO Michael Lohschller in a press release. He added, “With this upgrade, we continue to deliver on our commitment to add value for our customers through over-the-air software and hardware updates. The already amazing Polestar 3 is now better than ever.”

Pricing and Trim Levels

The 2027 Polestar 3 will be available in three distinct variants, with pricing commencing at $116,700 before on-road costs for the Rear motor variant. This represents a slight reduction of $1,720 from the previous model’s starting price. A significant change is that all variants now include the Plus Pack as standard, which was previously a $9,000 optional extra.

Standard and Optional Features

In addition to the standard Plus Pack, the Pilot Pack is also now included across all trims. This comprehensive package enhances safety and convenience features. The Climate Pack, which adds a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and heated front wiper blades, is available as an optional upgrade for $1,200.

Polestar is also offering a variety of individual options and color choices to allow for further personalization of the Polestar 3.

Powertrain and Battery Specifications

The performance-oriented variant of the Polestar 3 now offers up to 500 kW of power. The base Rear motor variant delivers 245 kW, while the Dual motor variant produces 400 kW.

Battery capacities vary across the range. The Rear motor variant is equipped with a 92 kWh battery pack, whereas the Dual motor and Performance variants feature a larger 106 kWh battery pack. These batteries are supplied by CATL, a leading global battery manufacturer, and incorporate a new architecture designed to improve efficiency by 6% compared to previous generations.

Charging Capabilities and Time Savings

All three variants of the 2027 Polestar 3 support 11 kW AC charging. The DC charging capability sees a significant upgrade, with the dual-motor variants capable of charging at up to 350 kW. The single-motor variant also benefits from an increased DC charging rate of up to 310 kW when connected to a compatible high-speed charger.

These advancements in charging technology translate to reduced charging times. Polestar states that the updated model can achieve a 10% to 80% charge in just 22 minutes, representing a 25% improvement over the current model’s charging speed.
