V-Green, a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure provider, is set to inject 10 trillion Vietnamese Dong, equivalent to approximately $380 million, into establishing a comprehensive network of EV charging stations across Vietnam. This significant investment underscores a strategic push to accelerate the adoption of EVs in Vietnam and solidify the nation’s green mobility ambitions.

The company, which emerged as a spin-off from the prominent Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup, is spearheading efforts to create a robust and accessible charging ecosystem. This move is crucial for addressing range anxiety among EV owners and facilitating seamless long-distance travel, thereby fostering greater confidence in electric transportation.

Strategic Deployment: Building a Robust Charging Backbone

According to reports from the Vietnam News Agency, V-Green has outlined an aggressive timeline for its initial deployment phase. By the close of this year, the company aims to construct 99 EV charging hubs strategically positioned along Vietnam’s national and provincial highway networks.

Each of these planned hubs is designed to be substantial, accommodating up to 100 individual charging points. Furthermore, each charging point will boast a maximum capacity of 150 kW, enabling rapid charging and significantly reducing the time required for vehicles to power up. This high-capacity infrastructure is vital for supporting the growing fleet of EVs in Vietnam, particularly during peak travel periods.

Harnessing Renewable Energy for Sustainable Mobility

A cornerstone of V-Green’s deployment strategy is its unwavering commitment to sustainability. All planned charging stations are slated to operate exclusively on renewable energy sources, marking a significant step towards minimizing the carbon footprint of electric transportation.

To ensure a consistent and reliable power supply, these stations will integrate advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS). These BESS units are not merely off-the-shelf components; they are developed and produced by VinFast, Vingroup’s innovative EV brand. This integrated approach highlights Vingroup’s holistic strategy towards sustainable mobility, encompassing both vehicle manufacturing and the essential supporting infrastructure.

The reliance on renewable energy combined with sophisticated battery storage solutions positions V-Green’s network as a future-forward model for charging infrastructure. It underscores a commitment to not only powering EVs but doing so in an environmentally responsible manner, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.

Enhancing Driver Confidence and Accessibility

The expansion of readily available, high-capacity charging infrastructure is critical for encouraging widespread EV adoption. One of the primary barriers to consumer uptake has traditionally been concerns over charging accessibility, often referred to as ‘range anxiety’. V-Green’s ambitious rollout directly tackles this challenge.

Pham Thanh Thuy, Chairwoman and CEO of V-Green, articulated the profound impact of this network on the user experience. She stated, “With 99 hubs in place, VinFast customers can travel long distances with full confidence, even during peak periods.” This assurance is pivotal, as it empowers drivers to undertake extended journeys without apprehension, making EVs a more viable and attractive option for diverse travel needs.

By establishing charging hubs along key travel arteries, V-Green is creating a seamless travel experience for owners of EVs in Vietnam. This network will ensure that even during holidays or busy travel seasons, drivers have reliable access to charging facilities, thereby boosting overall satisfaction and encouraging more consumers to transition to electric vehicles.

Ambitious Growth Trajectory and International Aspirations

V-Green’s plans extend far beyond the initial 99 hubs scheduled for deployment this year. The company harbors significantly ambitious long-term objectives, signalling a robust commitment to shaping the future of electric mobility both domestically and internationally.

By the year 2028, V-Green aims for a monumental achievement: deploying an impressive 500,000 charging ports across Vietnam. This target represents an exponential expansion from its initial phase, demonstrating a clear vision for an omnipresent charging infrastructure that can cater to a rapidly growing fleet of EVs in Vietnam, permeating urban centers and reaching into more remote areas.

Such a large-scale deployment will fundamentally transform the landscape of electric vehicle ownership in the country, making charging as convenient and ubiquitous as refuelling traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. It also suggests V-Green’s projection of substantial growth in EV sales and adoption rates within the next few years.

Beyond its domestic ambitions, V-Green has also expressed intentions to expand its operations into international markets. This strategic foresight positions the Vietnamese firm not just as a national leader but as a potential global player in the burgeoning EV charging sector. Such an expansion would entail exporting its expertise, technology, and operational models to other countries, further elevating Vietnam’s standing in the global green technology landscape.

Catalysing Vietnam’s Green Transformation

V-Green’s substantial investment and aggressive deployment plans are poised to be a major catalyst in Vietnam’s transition towards a greener, more sustainable future. The widespread availability of charging infrastructure is a foundational element for the mass adoption of electric vehicles, directly contributing to reduced air pollution, decreased reliance on fossil fuels, and lower carbon emissions.

The integrated approach, leveraging VinFast’s technological capabilities for battery energy storage systems, further strengthens Vingroup’s ecosystem in the electric mobility sector. This synergy ensures that the growth of EVs in Vietnam is supported by locally developed, cutting-edge solutions, fostering technological independence and innovation within the country.

By establishing such a comprehensive and sustainable charging network, V-Green is not only addressing current demands but is actively laying the groundwork for future generations of EVs. This forward-thinking strategy will enable Vietnam to solidify its position as a leader in sustainable transport solutions within Southeast Asia, attracting further investment and fostering economic growth in the green technology sector.

The commitment of $380 million marks a pivotal moment for EVs in Vietnam, heralding an era of enhanced accessibility, greater convenience, and strengthened confidence for electric vehicle owners. As the infrastructure rapidly expands, the vision of a fully electric and environmentally conscious transportation system in Vietnam moves closer to reality, driven by V-Green’s strategic initiatives.
