Electrify America (EA), the electric vehicle fast charging network established by Volkswagen Group of America, has announced significant milestones in its network expansion and usage. The company now operates a total of over 5,600 public EV chargers across North America.
Network Growth and Infrastructure Upgrades
This substantial growth includes the recent opening of two major charging hubs in California, each equipped with more than 20 individual charging stations. These new facilities are designed to cater to the increasing demand for fast and reliable EV charging.
Furthermore, Electrify America has upgraded over 1,100 of its existing EV chargers to next-generation units. These advanced chargers are capable of delivering up to 350 kilowatts (kW) of power, enabling ultra-fast charging for compatible electric vehicles.
Record Usage and Energy Delivery in 2025
The year 2025 marked a period of substantial activity for the Electrify America network. Drivers completed more than 20 million charging sessions, representing a 21 percent increase compared to the previous year. This surge in usage underscores the growing adoption of electric vehicles and the reliance on public charging infrastructure.
In parallel with the rise in charging sessions, the total energy delivered by the network also saw significant growth. Electrify America increased its energy delivery by 26 percent, surpassing a cumulative total of 750 gigawatt-hours (GWh). This volume of energy is sufficient to power millions of electric vehicles.
CEO Highlights Community and Future Vision
Robert Barros, President and CEO of Electrify America, commented on the network’s achievements. “As we approach our 10-year anniversary, I think about the millions of drivers who have shaped Electrify America into what it stands for today,” he stated.
Barros emphasized that the company’s year-over-year growth is not merely a reflection of business success but also a testament to a developing community of EV drivers. “Our year-over-year growth isn’t just a sign of a strong company; it reflects a growing community of EV drivers who believe in an electric future,” he added.
Electrify America was initially established in 2016 by Volkswagen Group of America as part of its commitment to address the environmental impact of its diesel emissions scandal. Since its inception, the company has focused on building a robust and accessible charging infrastructure to support the transition to electric mobility.
Continued Expansion and Commitment to EV Adoption
The continuous expansion of Electrify America’s network, including the deployment of high-power 350 kW chargers, is crucial for alleviating range anxiety and encouraging broader EV adoption. The availability of fast charging options is a key factor for drivers undertaking longer journeys or those who rely on public charging.
As the EV market matures, the demand for reliable and widespread charging solutions is expected to grow. Electrify America’s ongoing investments in infrastructure and technology position it as a key player in facilitating the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in North America.
The company’s progress highlights the evolving landscape of electric transportation and the critical role that charging networks play in enabling a sustainable automotive future. With over 5,600 chargers and a growing number of high-speed options, Electrify America is working to meet the needs of the current and future EV driver community.
