EVgo, one of the largest electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging networks in the United States, is significantly increasing the installation of Tesla-style North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors across its stations.
EVgo’s Ambitious NACS Expansion Plans
Following a successful pilot program in 2025 where nearly 100 NACS connectors were deployed in 22 metropolitan areas, EVgo aims to accelerate its rollout. The company plans to install over 500 additional NACS connectors by the end of 2026 at its 350-kilowatt-capable charging sites. These newly equipped or upgraded locations will serve over 25 states, with a strategic focus on key metropolitan areas including Austin, Houston, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, and San Francisco.
Industry Shift Towards NACS Connectors
This move by EVgo reflects a broader trend within the EV charging industry. As more electric vehicles are manufactured with integrated NACS ports, other charging network operators are also retrofitting existing stations and installing new stalls with NACS connectors. This development is aimed at simplifying the charging experience for EV drivers, reducing their reliance on adapters.
EVgo’s Current Charging Infrastructure
While EVgo is actively embracing the NACS standard, it still has considerable ground to cover. According to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center, EVgo currently operates 1,165 DC fast-charging stations nationwide, offering a total of 4,783 charging ports. As of the latest data, only 98 of these ports are equipped with NACS connectors.
The NACS Landscape in the U.S.
Tesla remains the dominant player in the NACS segment, boasting 36,102 NACS ports across 2,970 Supercharger stations. With a total of 38,086 NACS DC fast chargers in the country, Tesla holds a substantial market share. Other networks are also expanding their NACS offerings. ChargePoint leads among non-Tesla networks with 530 NACS ports, followed by Ionna with 312 NACS ports, BP Pulse with 138, and EVgo with 98.
