Ionna, a rapidly expanding DC fast charging network backed by major automotive manufacturers, has achieved a significant milestone, announcing it now operates over 100 stations across the United States. This expansion brings the total number of individual charging bays to nearly 1,000 nationwide. The company is marking this achievement, coinciding with its second anniversary, by introducing attractive discounts for electric vehicle (EV) drivers.
Network Expansion and Anniversary Celebration
The achievement of reaching 100 operational charging sites is particularly noteworthy for Ionna, a company founded just two years ago. Its first DC fast chargers went live in December 2024. While the company had initially projected reaching this target by the end of 2025 or early 2026, it required a slightly extended timeline to fulfill its goal.
To commemorate its second anniversary and the 100-station mark, Ionna is rolling out special pricing initiatives at its high-speed 400-kilowatt (kW) chargers. These promotions are designed to attract more EV owners and encourage the use of its growing infrastructure.
Exclusive Offers for EV Drivers
Among the introductory offers, drivers of General Motors EVs can benefit from an exclusive 10% discount on charging costs. This discount applies specifically to the energy dispensed, excluding taxes and any session-related fees. To avail themselves of this offer, drivers must utilize their respective manufacturer’s smartphone application, such as myCadillac, myChevrolet, or myGMC.
The 10% price reduction will be reflected on the final receipt at the end of the charging session, rather than displayed on the charging stall’s screen. It is important to note that this discount is not applicable to charging sessions initiated via the stall’s credit card reader or through third-party charging applications.
Loyalty Programs and Future Promotions
Ionna has also indicated plans for additional special offers aimed at EV owners whose vehicles are from its founding partner brands. These upcoming incentives include loyalty rewards, pre-paid discount cards, and standard base discounts that do not require a subscription. The founding partners represent a significant portion of the automotive market and include
- BMW
- Honda
- Hyundai
- Kia
- Mercedes-Benz
- Stellantis
- Toyota
EV owners driving vehicles from these manufacturers are encouraged to watch for further announcements regarding these programs.
Introductory Pricing at New Locations
Beyond the ongoing partnerships, Ionna is implementing a compelling introductory offer for all new locations opened this year. For the first week at any newly energized site, the charging rate will be set at an attractive $0.20 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). This promotional rate offers substantial savings compared to Ionna’s standard pricing, which typically ranges between $0.33 to $0.39 per kWh.
Ambitious Growth Trajectory
Ionna’s expansion efforts have been substantial in the current year. To date, the company has activated 212 new charging bays. The company’s growth plans extend significantly further, with over 4,700 bays contracted nationwide and nearly 1,500 currently under construction.
Looking ahead, Ionna has set an ambitious target to operate 30,000 DC fast charging bays by 2030. These future installations will be capable of delivering up to 400 kW of power, supporting both CCS and NACS cable standards, further solidifying its role in the expanding EV charging landscape.
The network has been praised for its reliability and amenities. One staff writer described a visit to an Ionna rechargery as “my best pit stop ever,” highlighting well-lit bays, dependable fast chargers, and convenient on-site facilities.
