Lectron has announced a significant milestone in electric vehicle (EV) charging, securing UL 2252 certification for its entire portfolio of charging adapters. This comprehensive certification covers adapters for North American Charging Standard (NACS), Combined Charging System (CCS), and J1772 connectors, encompassing both AC and DC charging configurations.

The company asserts that this achievement positions it as a provider of one of the most complete interoperability solutions available in the rapidly evolving EV charging market. This development is crucial for consumers navigating the diverse and often fragmented charging infrastructure.

Certified AC and DC Charging Solutions

The newly certified AC adapters include models for NACS-to-J1772 and J1772-to-NACS transitions, supporting both Level 1 and Level 2 charging speeds. These are essential for owners of EVs equipped with different charging ports to utilize various charging stations.

These AC adapters join Lectron’s previously certified DC fast-charging units. The Vortex Plus adapter, designed for NACS-to-CCS connections, has received automaker approval and was among the first widely available DC charging adapters to pass the rigorous UL 2252 safety standard. Complementing this is a CCS-to-NACS adapter, enabling seamless charging for Tesla and other NACS-equipped vehicles at CCS fast-charging locations.

Bridging Charging Standards for Enhanced Access

Lectron’s expanded certified lineup effectively bridges the three primary charging standards prevalent in the United States: NACS, CCS, and J1772. This covers a broad spectrum of charging environments, from home and workplace charging to public charging infrastructure.

The achievement comes at a critical juncture as the automotive industry increasingly converges on the NACS standard, now formally recognized as SAE J3400. This industry shift underscores the importance of adapters that facilitate compatibility between older and newer charging technologies.

Specifically, the NACS-to-CCS Vortex Plus adapter significantly enhances charging access for non-Tesla EVs. It unlocks the potential of over 25,000 Tesla Superchargers and other NACS-equipped DC charging stations, making them accessible to a wider range of electric vehicles.

Conversely, the CCS-to-NACS adapter empowers Tesla vehicles and those equipped with the NACS connector to utilize the extensive network of over 12,000 CCS fast chargers. This dual capability dramatically expands charging options for all EV owners.

Safety and Reliability for EV Owners

Christopher Maiwald, CEO of Lectron, emphasized the value proposition for consumers. “For customers switching EVs, future-proofing their home charging setup, or expanding charging options on the road, Lectron adapters deliver safety and reliability,” Maiwald stated.

The UL 2252 certification is a crucial indicator of product safety, ensuring that the adapters meet stringent performance and safety requirements established by Underwriters Laboratories. This certification provides consumers with confidence in the quality and security of Lectron’s products.

Lectron reports that its products are widely adopted, claiming that one in five electric vehicle owners in the United States currently use their charging solutions. This widespread adoption highlights the company’s significant presence in the EV accessories market.

The company’s commitment to safety and interoperability through certification is expected to further solidify its position in the market, especially as EV adoption continues to accelerate and the charging landscape evolves.
