For those who crave the motorcycle aesthetic but prefer the accessibility of an e-bike, Ruff Cycles has introduced its latest model, the Lil’Buddy Edge. This new offering from the German e-bike manufacturer aims to capture a broader market with its stylish, moto-inspired design and an accessible price point.

An Accessible Entry into E-Biking

The Lil’Buddy Edge is positioned as Ruff Cycles’ most affordable model to date, retailing for 1,999 euros (approximately $2,176 USD). The company’s Managing Director, Petar “Pero” Desnica, stated that the introduction of the Lil’Buddy Edge is a strategic move to enter the entry-level price bracket. “In this way, we ensure that we can offer a lifestyle eBike at an attractive price and in top quality in order to give a larger audience the opportunity to have fun with Ruff Cycles e-bikes,” Desnica told E-Bike News.

Design and Component Choices

The e-bike features a playful and stylish design, drawing inspiration from street culture with vibrant colors and a graffiti motif. To achieve its competitive pricing, Ruff Cycles has opted for more basic, yet reliable, components. Instead of a mid-drive motor, the Lil’Buddy Edge is equipped with a simpler rear hub motor from Bafang. The bike also forgoes suspension, relying on its chunky tires and a comfortable seat to absorb impacts from uneven surfaces.

Anticipated Performance and Features

While specific performance data for the Lil’Buddy Edge is still forthcoming, its market positioning in Europe suggests it will likely feature a nominal power output of 250 watts. It is expected to offer pedal assistance up to approximately 15 miles per hour. Complementing the electric motor, the bike includes a derailleur drivetrain, enabling riders to pedal smoothly in conjunction with the motor’s assistance.
