Tesla’s advanced driver-assistance system, Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised, has achieved a significant milestone, with its users collectively driving over 13 billion kilometres (approximately 8.2 billion miles) worldwide. This data, recently updated by the electric vehicle manufacturer, underscores the growing adoption and operational mileage of its sophisticated autonomous driving technology.
Milestone Achieved Amidst Expanding User Base
The announcement follows closely on the heels of Tesla’s first public data release on FSD Supervised just last month, which revealed a global user base exceeding one million. The latest figures highlight a rapid increase in the accumulated distance covered by the software.
In a recent post on the social media platform X, Tesla shared the update: “Tesla owners have now driven >8 billion miles on FSD Supervised.” This statement indicates substantial growth in usage since previous reports.
This milestone marks considerable progress, especially considering that in December 2025, Tesla had reported hitting over 10 billion kilometres. The current figure of over 13 billion kilometres demonstrates accelerated usage in the intervening months.
Detailed Usage Statistics Emerge
At the time of reporting, a live tracker for FSD supervised distance indicated nearly 8.3 billion miles had been covered. Of this total, a significant portion, over 3 billion miles (nearly 5 billion kilometres), was driven on city streets, showcasing the software’s capability in complex urban environments.
Global Rollout and Market Penetration
While a majority of the kilometres logged by FSD-supervised vehicles have occurred in North America, Tesla has been steadily expanding the software’s availability. By 2025, the technology had been rolled out to several other countries, including Australia and New Zealand.
Tesla initiated the launch of its FSD supervised software in Australia and New Zealand on September 18, 2025. This marked the debut of the feature in the world’s first right-hand-drive markets, signifying a strategic global expansion for the company’s autonomous driving technology.
Pricing and Subscription Models
At the time of its launch in these new markets, the FSD supervised software was offered as an option on all new vehicles. The initial purchase price was set at $10,100. Tesla later introduced a monthly subscription model, which commenced later in the year and is currently priced starting at $149 per month.
The introduction of the subscription service has reportedly encouraged a large number of existing Tesla owners to explore and utilise the FSD Supervised software for the first time. However, it is important to note that the software is not presently compatible with older vehicles equipped with Hardware 3, although future compatibility is a possibility.
Following its local launch, Tesla shared usage statistics that highlighted immediate owner engagement. Within just two weeks of the software becoming available in Australia and New Zealand, and even before the subscription option was introduced, owners had already accumulated over 1 million kilometres of driving using FSD Supervised.
Shift Towards Subscription-Only Model
In a significant strategic shift, Tesla announced last week its intention to offer FSD Supervised exclusively through a subscription model starting April 1, 2026. Consequently, the option for a one-time purchase of $10,100 will cease to be available for new customers after this date.
Future of Autonomy: Cybercab Unveiled
Adding to its recent flurry of autonomous driving advancements, Tesla also revealed this week the production of its first official steering- and pedaless two-seater Robotaxi, named the Cybercab, at its Texas facility. This development represents a substantial leap forward in the company’s pursuit of full vehicle autonomy.
These ongoing developments strongly indicate Tesla’s unwavering commitment to advancing autonomy. The company appears to be fully invested in a race that has the potential to fundamentally reshape the global transportation landscape.
