Tesla has begun communicating pricing for its highly anticipated all-electric Semi truck to interested parties, following the recent disclosure of two distinct trim levels and their specifications. The revealed figures represent an increase from initial projections made in 2017.
New Pricing Structure for Tesla Semi
The updated pricing, reported by Electrek, places the Standard Range Tesla Semi at $250,000 per unit, while the Long Range variant is priced at $290,000. These figures do not include applicable taxes and destination fees. This pricing adjustment is attributed to factors such as inflation and evolving production costs over the years.
When the Tesla Semi was first unveiled in November 2017, the company had outlined three pricing tiers:
- A 300-mile range version was projected at $150,000.
- A 500-mile range version was estimated at $180,000.
- A limited “Founders Series” edition was planned for $200,000, requiring full upfront payment for priority production and limited to 1,000 units.
Trim Levels and Production Outlook
Tesla recently announced plans to offer the Semi in two trim levels: Standard Range and Long Range. This offering is designed to cater to a variety of commercial needs, from local logistics to regional delivery services, positioning the Semi as a competitor in the burgeoning electric heavy-duty truck market.
CEO Elon Musk has reiterated that the Tesla Semi is slated for volume production this year. Production will be centered at a new, dedicated facility in Sparks, Nevada. Ground was broken on this site in 2024, and the factory was nearing completion by late 2025, with initial “online builds” targeted for the same period. The facility is anticipated to achieve an annual output of 50,000 units at full capacity.
Tesla has not made an official public announcement regarding the Semi’s pricing. However, it is customary for manufacturers of commercial vehicles to reserve detailed pricing information for entities that have placed reservations or expressed serious intent to purchase.
