NEW YORK – X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a significant outage on Monday morning, leaving tens of thousands of users unable to access the platform. The disruption began around 8:02 a.m. ET, according to data from Downdetector, and rapidly affected users across the United States and the United Kingdom.
Platform Accessibility Issues Intensify
Downdetector registered a sharp increase in outage reports shortly after 8 a.m. ET. At its peak, the site showed over 40,000 incident reports from the U.S. and more than 6,000 from the U.K. Earlier reports indicated over 11,000 U.S. complaints and 3,300 from the U.K., as noted in a report by TechRadar. Users in other international locations, including the Philippines and Costa Rica, also reported similar difficulties accessing the platform.
Affected users encountered a “something went wrong” message when attempting to load X. The social media platform’s feeds failed to refresh, posts were not displaying, and both the mobile application and the web version appeared to be non-functional. The outage occurred during a period of peak weekday usage, increasing its impact and visibility.
Recurrence of Service Disruptions
This latest incident follows a similar widespread outage that affected X in mid-January. While the current disruption has impacted a significant number of users, the January outage was more pronounced, with Downdetector recording over 100,000 user reports.
X has not yet released an official statement detailing the cause of Monday’s service disruption or providing an explanation for the outage. The scale of the issue has drawn comparisons to a major outage in November 2025, which resulted in error messages such as “Internal server error / Error code 500” and Cloudflare-related error notices.
