Kia is injecting more excitement into its affordable electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of new GT performance models for the EV3, EV4, and EV5. While not reaching the extreme power levels of the EV6 GT, these new variants offer a significant boost in performance and a more engaging driving experience.
Previously, these models were only available with single-motor, front-wheel-drive configurations, prioritizing comfort over performance. The new GT versions add a second motor, enhancing both acceleration and overall driving dynamics. Kia promises these models will “pair emotional driving with advanced digital experiences,” thanks to the increased power, a dedicated GT driving mode, and an electronically adjustable suspension system designed to offer a sportier feel compared to the comfort-tuned standard versions.
Visually, the GT models receive subtle exterior enhancements and distinctive badging to signify their sportier intent. Inside, drivers will find supportive sports seats, a three-spoke GT steering wheel, and an intriguing feature: artificial engine sounds with virtual gear shifting. This aims to provide the auditory and sensory feedback of a traditional performance car in an otherwise silent electric vehicle.
Under the hood, the EV3 GT (subcompact crossover) and EV4 GT (compact hatchback/sedan) each produce a combined 282 horsepower, powered by a 194-hp front motor and a 94-hp rear motor. The larger EV5 GT boasts a slightly higher output of 302 horsepower, benefiting from a more potent 208-hp front motor.
While initial rumors suggested power figures closer to 400 horsepower, these GT models are considerably quicker than their standard counterparts. The EV4 GT leads the pack, accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds, followed by the EV3 GT at 5.7 seconds, and the EV5 GT at 6.2 seconds.
All three GT models utilize the same 81.4 kWh battery pack. However, the addition of the second motor and increased power output will likely reduce the official WLTP range compared to the single-motor versions. For reference, the standard EV3 offers up to 376 miles (605 km), the EV4 up to 391 miles (633 km), and the EV5 up to 344 miles (555 km).
Soohang Chang, President and CEO of Kia Europe, stated, “Our new electric Kia GT models prove that electrification can be emotional and resolute. The EV3 GT, EV4 GT, and EV5 GT will deliver an engaging, confidence-inspiring drive, combining the instant responsiveness of electric power with sporty character and all-purpose capability. These GTs are crafted for those who seek the best of both worlds: excitement while embracing a future of responsible mobility.”
Kia has not yet announced pricing or specific market availability for these GT models. However, production is slated to commence in the second quarter of 2026, with deliveries expected to follow shortly thereafter. It remains to be seen if Kia will offer a GT version of the upcoming EV2.
