Tesla has achieved a significant milestone, with its global fleet of electric vehicles now exceeding 9 million units worldwide. The announcement was made by Tesla China, highlighting the company’s substantial growth in the highly competitive electric vehicle market.
Milestone Celebrated with Owner Incentives
Tesla China marked the occasion by sharing a graphic that expressed gratitude to its over nine million global owners. To celebrate, the company introduced several incentives for select owners, including opportunities for Model Y test drives, premium Tesla Bot gift sets, and Supercharging perks. This achievement comes 16 years after Tesla began delivering its first vehicle, the original Roadster, in February 2008. The initial production Roadster was delivered to Elon Musk, who was serving as chairman at the time.
Growth Fueled by High-Volume Models and China Market
The expansion of Tesla’s global fleet to over 9 million vehicles underscores the impact of its growth strategy over the past decade. The introduction of high-volume models like the Model 3 and Model Y has been instrumental in transforming Tesla from a niche automaker into one of the world’s leading electric car manufacturers. The company’s performance in China has been a key driver of this expansion. In December 2025, Tesla’s Model Y was the top-selling new energy vehicle in China, selling approximately 65,874 units, according to sales data from Yiche. The Model 3 also performed strongly, ranking eighth overall with nearly 28,000 units sold. Tesla China recorded its second-highest monthly wholesale vehicle sales in December, with 97,171 units, trailing only the November 2022 record.
