General Motors (GM) has taken a significant step towards streamlining the electric vehicle (EV) charging experience for its customers by integrating over 5,000 Electrify America DC fast chargers directly into its vehicle-specific smartphone applications. This move aims to reduce the reliance on multiple third-party charging apps, alleviating a common point of frustration for EV owners.
Integrated Charging Solutions for GM EV Owners
Owners of Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac EVs can now utilize their respective native apps – myChevrolet, myGMC, and myCadillac – to locate Electrify America charging stations, initiate charging sessions, and complete payments. While alternative apps like Electrify America’s own or PlugShare remain available, this integration consolidates essential charging functions within GM’s ecosystem.
The company announced that this integration offers GM EV drivers access to a network of over 250,000 public chargers across the United States and Canada. Beyond Electrify America, GM has also incorporated other charging networks, including Ionna and Tesla Superchargers, into its native applications.
Enhanced User Experience and Network Access
According to Robert Barrosa, CEO and president of Electrify America, the integration will provide GM EV drivers with greater access to the company’s Hyper-Fast chargers and a more seamless nationwide charging experience. He stated, “As EV travel continues to grow, so does the need for convenient charging experiences. Through this integration, GM EV drivers have more Hyper-Fast chargers to choose from and a seamless experience they can count on nationwide, helping them get to the places that matter.”
GM’s vehicle apps are designed to offer a comprehensive suite of features for EV owners. Users can find charging stations, view their real-time availability, plan routes with integrated charging stops, monitor ongoing charging sessions, and manage payments directly within the app.
GM’s Growing EV Presence
This development coincides with GM’s increasing presence in the EV market. The automaker set a new EV sales record in the previous year, establishing itself as the second-largest EV manufacturer in the U.S. The Chevy Equinox EV, in particular, emerged as the best-selling non-Tesla EV in the country for 2025, reportedly doubling its sales volume compared to 2024.
Meanwhile, Electrify America continues to expand its infrastructure, despite industry challenges. The company currently operates 1,116 stations in the U.S., providing access to 5,405 charging ports, according to data from the Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center.
