Tesla Set to Activate Long-Awaited Active Noise Cancellation Feature for Cybertruck

Tesla is preparing to enable a highly anticipated feature for its Cybertruck pickup: Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). The company has officially updated its website, listing the ANC feature for specific Cybertruck trims, indicating an imminent software activation.

Feature Confirmed on Website, Hardware Already Present

The Active Noise Cancellation feature has now appeared on the official specifications for the Premium All-Wheel-Drive and Cyberbeast trims of the Cybertruck. These are the configurations that have been delivered to customers since November 2023. While the hardware for ANC has been present in these vehicles, the feature has remained inactive.

According to information from Not a Tesla App, Tesla’s internal Service Toolbox documentation states, “ANC software is not enabled on Cybertruck even though the hardware is installed.” This confirmation suggests that a software update is all that is required to bring the feature to life.

Understanding Active Noise Cancellation in Tesla Vehicles

Tesla has previously integrated ANC systems into its Model S and Model X vehicles, beginning in 2021. This technology utilizes microphones, typically embedded in the front seat headrests, to detect low-frequency road noise within the cabin. By generating inverse sound waves, the system actively cancels out this ambient noise, thereby creating a quieter driving environment, particularly for front occupants.

While the Model S and Model X employ six microphones to achieve this, the Cybertruck is understood to be equipped with four microphones for its ANC system. The underlying principle remains the same: to enhance cabin tranquility by mitigating intrusive road noise.

Potential Challenges and Cybertruck’s Unique Design

The delay in activating the ANC feature on the Cybertruck is likely attributable to the vehicle’s unconventional design and engineering. Unlike the Model S and Model X, the Cybertruck presents unique challenges due to its heavy-duty all-terrain tires and the construction materials, such as the stainless steel exoskeleton. These factors may have required additional tuning and development for the ANC system to perform optimally.

It is important to note that this forthcoming ANC feature will not be available on the recently released Dual Motor All-Wheel-Drive configuration of the Cybertruck.

Cybertruck Pricing Adjustments and Customer Reception

In related news, Tesla recently introduced a new Dual Motor All-Wheel-Drive configuration for the Cybertruck with a starting price of $59,990. However, this attractive introductory price was announced by CEO Elon Musk to be a limited-time offer, valid for only ten days. The company has since confirmed this price will increase after February 28, 2026.

This pricing strategy has generated mixed reactions from consumers and enthusiasts. Some criticized Tesla’s approach, particularly after marketing emails announced the $59,990 price without mentioning it was a temporary offer. Critics argue this method can be perceived as counterproductive, potentially pressuring customers into making rushed decisions.

The Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD is stated to offer an estimated range of 325 miles, a powered tonneau cover, bed outlets with Powershare capability, coil springs with adaptive damping, heated seats with textile material, steer-by-wire, four-wheel steering, a 6’x4′ composite bed, and a towing capacity of up to 7,500 lbs. This configuration differs from the Premium All-Wheel-Drive trim, which is priced higher at $79,990 and offers enhanced towing capacity (11,000 lbs), vegan leather seats, a 15-speaker audio system, and adjustable ride height.

Elon Musk clarified his initial comments regarding the ten-day window, explaining that the price would fluctuate based on observed demand at the $59,990 level. This transparency has led to a polarized response within the community, with some defending it as a logical market adjustment and others questioning the communication strategy and its potential impact on perceived demand.

The initial launch of the All-Wheel-Drive configuration was met with enthusiasm, especially considering the underwhelming sales figures of the Cybertruck in recent years. However, the short-term pricing strategy has sparked debate about Tesla’s approach to product launches and customer engagement.

The Cybertruck program has seen several adjustments since its inception, including the cancellation of the Rear-Wheel-Drive configuration due to low demand. The current focus on the AWD and Cyberbeast trims, coupled with the dynamic pricing strategy for the newer AWD model, reflects Tesla’s ongoing efforts to optimize the Cybertruck’s market position.

Tesla’s commitment to innovation is evident in its pursuit of features like Active Noise Cancellation, aiming to enhance the overall ownership experience for its unique electric pickup truck.
