Cyberdefense innovator Xiid has announced a significant strategic partnership with eVerged, a company focused on electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. This collaboration is set to enhance the security of the rapidly growing EV charging ecosystem by integrating Xiid’s advanced cybersecurity technologies into eVerged’s offerings.
Addressing Escalating Cyber Threats in EV Infrastructure
The rapid expansion of electric vehicle infrastructure, while a positive step towards clean energy, has concurrently introduced a growing number of escalating cybersecurity challenges. These threats pose risks to charging stations, the millions of individual EVs connecting to them, and even the stability of the power grids that support this infrastructure.
eVerged highlighted the urgency of this issue, stating, “The rapid expansion of EV infrastructure has introduced a growing number of escalating cybersecurity challenges, threatening charging stations, millions of individual devices, even the stability of power grids.”
To combat these vulnerabilities, the partnership will leverage Xiid’s Terniion zero-trust application control platform. Additionally, Xiid’s SealedTunnel cybersecurity technology will be embedded directly into eVerged’s comprehensive suite of EV charging solutions.
A Unified Approach to EV Charging Security
The joint effort aims to create a robust, end-to-end security framework for the entire EV charging ecosystem, spanning from the vehicle itself to the cloud-based management systems.
“Together, eVerged and Xiid are securing the EV charging ecosystem from vehicle to cloud,” the companies explained. “The new joint solution delivers next-generation cybersecurity across billing systems, charging stations, EVs and networks, addressing critical vulnerabilities while protecting data transport and ensuring secure billing.”
This integrated solution is designed to provide enhanced protection for critical components including billing systems, charging stations, the electric vehicles themselves, and the underlying networks.
Benefits Across the EV Ecosystem
The collaboration is set to deliver distinct advantages to various stakeholders within the electric vehicle landscape:
- For Charging Station Operators: The partnership promises to reduce operational downtime and mitigate potential liabilities associated with security breaches.
- For EV Drivers: A primary focus is the protection of sensitive personal and vehicle data, ensuring drivers can charge with confidence.
- For Municipalities and Fleets: The joint solution offers a scalable and secure model designed to meet stringent compliance and security mandates for public and commercial EV charging.
- For Utilities and Billing Providers: Ensuring the integrity of data transport and financial transactions across distributed charging networks is a key benefit, safeguarding against fraud and ensuring reliable service.
Securing the Future of Clean Energy
Steve Visconti, CEO of Xiid, emphasized the critical role of cybersecurity in the transition to clean energy. “EV charging is a critical link in the clean energy future, but the scale of its impact makes it a vulnerable target,” Visconti stated. “Together with eVerged, we’re delivering end-to-end protection—making charging systems undiscoverable, eliminating lateral movement risks and ensuring billing integrity.”
Xiid’s zero-trust approach ensures that only authorized applications and entities can access the network, significantly reducing the attack surface.
James Dion, President of eVerged, reiterated the company’s foundational commitment to security. “eVerged was founded on the belief that security must be built into EV infrastructure from day one,” Dion said. “Xiid ensures that eVerged customers—whether drivers, enterprises or municipalities—can charge with confidence, knowing their data, transactions and vehicles are fully protected.”
This partnership underscores a proactive strategy to address the evolving cybersecurity landscape within the electric vehicle sector, aiming to build trust and facilitate wider adoption of EV technology through robust security measures.
