Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has once again underscored his commitment to the production timeline for the company’s highly anticipated Cybercab. This marks the third instance in the last six months where Musk has explicitly stated that production of the innovative vehicle is slated to commence in April 2026.
Cybercab Design and Production Timeline
In a recent statement, Musk reiterated that the Cybercab will enter its initial manufacturing phase in April 2026. He further clarified that the vehicle will be designed without traditional pedals or a steering wheel, addressing earlier speculations about these components potentially being included.
Musk shared this update via X, stating, Cybercab, which has no pedals or steering wheel, starts production in April
. This statement was accompanied by a link to a previous report and posted on February 16, 2026.
Past Timelines and Future Outlook
Musk is known for setting ambitious deadlines, and while some Tesla products have faced delays in reaching fruition, the repeated confirmation of the Cybercab’s April 2026 production start is noted as unusual.
Previously, in December 2025, Musk indicated that Tesla was testing the production system
for the Cybercab, with real production ramp starts in April
. On January 23, he also stated, Cybercab production starts in April
.
Production Ramp and Efficiency
Addressing potential production speeds, Musk explained in January that the Cybercab would follow an S-curve production ramp. He elaborated, initial production is always very slow and follows an S-curve. The speed of production ramp is inversely proportionate to how many new parts and steps there are. For Cybercab and Optimus, almost everything is new, so the early production rate will be agonizingly slow, but eventually end up being insanely fast.
The Cybercab is positioned as a significant component of Tesla’s future autonomous ride-sharing strategy.
