Lucid Motors is enhancing its flagship Gravity electric SUV by introducing support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This highly anticipated feature is being rolled out to existing vehicles through an over-the-air (OTA) software update, ensuring that owners of the luxury EV can seamlessly integrate their smartphones with the vehicle’s infotainment system.

Expanding Connectivity for Lucid Gravity Owners

The Lucid Gravity, known for its impressive range and charging capabilities, has now addressed a key demand from its customer base. The latest software iteration, Lucid UX version 3.5, is currently being distributed wirelessly to Gravity SUVs across North America. Owners are advised to look for a notification on their vehicle’s screen to initiate the update.

For drivers in the Middle East and Europe, the rollout of these smartphone mirroring features is scheduled to begin in late March. Importantly, all new Lucid Gravity SUVs rolling off the production line at Lucid’s Arizona facility are already equipped with this updated software, featuring both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

Seamless Integration on the Clearview Cockpit

Lucid has confirmed that both wireless and wired connections will be supported for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. These popular features will be prominently displayed on the Gravity’s expansive 6K-resolution Clearview Cockpit, the large central display situated on the dashboard, providing drivers with intuitive access to their familiar mobile interfaces.

Customer Demand Drives Software Enhancement

Emad Dlala, SVP of Engineering and Software at Lucid, highlighted the significance of these additions. “Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are two of the most sought-after features by our customers,” Dlala stated. “We are now providing a seamless connection between mobile devices and the Lucid Gravity. We’re excited to introduce these features to Lucid Gravity, which now offers even greater comfort and convenience for owners.”

Lucid Gravity: A Leader in EV Technology

Since its debut in 2024, the Lucid Gravity has garnered attention for its advanced technology and performance metrics. It was recognized as the fastest-charging EV in the United States, capable of accepting a 400-kilowatt power input. This allows it to gain over 200 miles of range in approximately 11 minutes.

The vehicle’s native NACS charge port provides access to the extensive Tesla Supercharger network across North America, enhancing its practicality for long-distance travel. While not all Superchargers can deliver the full power capacity of the Gravity, the compatibility significantly expands charging options.

With a potential range of up to 450 miles on a single charge, the Gravity is positioned as a capable and luxurious option for extended journeys. It combines high performance with a refined interior and advanced features, aiming to set a new standard in the electric SUV segment.

Addressing Early Software Challenges

The launch of Lucid’s second model, the Gravity, was not without its initial hurdles, particularly concerning software performance. Reports indicated that the vehicle experienced some software glitches and issues with system responsiveness. In response to these challenges, Lucid’s CEO previously stated that the company had restructured its software development team to address and resolve these concerns.

For a vehicle in the luxury price bracket, exceeding $80,000, seamless software operation is a critical expectation. Lucid has indicated that subsequent software updates have been effective in resolving many of these early issues, improving the overall user experience. The integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is a significant step in continuing this improvement.

The ongoing development and refinement of the Gravity’s software underscore Lucid Motors’ commitment to enhancing its vehicles post-purchase, providing added value and convenience to its growing customer base. This focus on continuous improvement through OTA updates is becoming a standard expectation for modern electric vehicles.
