Geely, a major global automaker that expanded into Australia last year, is rolling out a highly anticipated over-the-air (OTA) update for its popular EX5 electric SUV, bringing the much-requested Android Auto functionality to the vehicle.

New Features Enhance EX5 Infotainment

The addition of Android Auto addresses a significant demand from EX5 owners since the model’s launch in March of the previous year. This update will allow users with Android smartphones to mirror their devices, granting access to their favorite applications directly through the car’s infotainment system. The screen-mirroring feature supports both wired and wireless connections for user convenience.

The sentiment from owners is overwhelmingly positive, with one user on a Geely EX5 owners group sharing, “Awesome have waited so long for this.” This update follows Geely’s previous OTA delivery of Apple CarPlay in August 2025, fulfilling a commitment to enhance the in-car experience for its customers.

Additional Improvements Included in the Update

Beyond Android Auto, the latest OTA update introduces several other valuable features:

  • Drive Setup One-Touch Activation: This allows drivers to save and quickly activate their preferred driving settings using a shortcut button on the steering wheel or a swipe-down menu on the central screen.
  • Customisable AVAS Low-Speed Alert Sounds: Owners can now select from three different audio profiles for the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS), which alerts pedestrians at low speeds.

Geely EX5 Performance and Market Presence

Geely entered the Australian market in March 2025 with the EX5 SUV, offering two variants: the entry-level Complete, starting at $40,990, and the top-of-the-line Inspire, starting at $44,990, both prices excluding on-road costs.

The Australian-spec EX5 is equipped with a 60.22 kWh battery pack, providing an estimated WLTP range of 430 km. It also features a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function with a discharge rate of up to 3.3 kW, a notable offering for its price segment.

The brand has rapidly expanded its footprint in Australia, now operating with 49 dealerships nationwide, more than doubling its network since its launch. In January, the Geely EX5 sold 415 units, ranking fourth among best-selling EVs for the month and outselling the Tesla Model Y. In 2025, the model recorded 3,944 sales, placing it fifth on the annual list.

Rollout and Future Outlook

The company has adhered to its original timeline for the Android Auto rollout, originally projected for the first quarter of 2026. The latest update is expected to be deployed to all existing Australian owners by February 9, 2026. Geely’s commitment to improving customer experience through OTA updates is likely to strengthen consumer confidence in its affordable EV offerings as more models enter the market.
